Imagine a cob of corn with peanut butter between all of the kernels. Now visualize how much of the peanut butter would be able to be removed using just a toothbrush. Not all of it, despite how hard you work. That’s the same concept behind ignoring dental floss in your oral healthcare regime. Dental floss reaches those nooks and crannies that toothbrushes can’t. You can also use other tools such as dental picks or tiny brushes that fit between teeth; choose the one that works best for you.
At the office of Lumos Dental, our skilled professionals are experts at diagnosing dental issues as well as providing the treatment needed to maintain excellent oral health. Your care and comfort are our top priorities, and our board-certified dentists will take as much time as you need to address your every concern and explain your options in care.
Cleaning between your teeth is a big contributor in your efforts to fend off cavities and gum disease. It is an asset in eliminating plaque, a sticky bacteria that feeds on food and sugar left in your mouth. The plaque then discharges an acid that can erode your teeth and turn into a coarse material called tarter (or calculus). Tarter, which only a dentist is able to eradicate, gathers along your gum lines and can activate gum disease.
If something is stuck between your teeth and you want to get rid of it right away, don’t be tempted to remove it with something that you think might be able to get the job done. According to a recent professional study, the majority of Americans have employed their fingernails, cards or folded paper, cutlery, safety pins and strands of hair. Those objects may be handy at the time, but they can also be harmful, ineffective and worsen the situation.
Lumos Dental’s professional team is made up of friendly, highly trained specialists who are eager to help you feel comfortable and relaxed while receiving the very best in dental care. We will scrupulously evaluate your total oral health and patiently answer any questions you may have. We’ve earned the trust of all of our clients and look forward to earning yours.
