When you need a job done well, you rely on a trained expert. The same applies to your oral health. If it’s been more than six months since your child and/or you have been to a dentist for a cleaning, it’s time to go.
At the office of Lumos Dental, we are authorities on diagnosing dental issues as well as providing the treatment needed to maintain excellent oral health. Your comfort is our top priority, and our board-certified dentist will take as much time as you need to address your every concern and explain your options in care.
Cavities are permanently damaged areas in the hard surfaces of your teeth that develop into tiny openings or holes. When cavities go untreated, they get bigger and penetrate deeper layers of your teeth. They can eventually lead to a painful toothache, infection and the loss of a tooth.
Cavities are caused by the accumulation of plaque. It’s a clear, pasty film that continuously grows around your teeth and gum line. When you don’t clean sugars and starches from your teeth, bacteria swoop in, feed on them and turn them into plaque. Plaque can harden and become tartar, which produces a shield for bacteria.
Even people who are fastidious about their oral hygiene aren’t exempt from plaque. Yes, a toothbrush and dental floss can remove portions of plaque, but they’re no match for a dentist’s professional-grade tools. A dentist will eliminate the plaque from your teeth’s visible surfaces as well as from areas that are difficult to reach, such as above the gum line and between teeth. Most people don’t realize when a cavity is forming. That’s why it’s important to have regular dental checkups and cleanings, even when everything seems fine.
At Lumos Dental, we keep pace with the most advanced approaches to prevent the onset and progress of tooth decay. Our friendly, highly trained specialists are eager to help you feel relaxed while receiving the very best in dental care. We will evaluate all aspects of your mouth and patiently answer all of your questions. For more information about how we can help you maintain your oral health, please don’t hesitate to schedule an appointment!
